Sanaa & Soul envisions a world where Black, Latiné, and Indigenous visual art and artists, are centered. We do this work by making these artworks accessible to secondary school youth in the Durham area, to expose students to diverse cultures and artists. Our program strives to eliminate the idea that museums and art are only a part of high culture and challenges students to think critically in a nuanced discipline.

Sanaa & Soul is an after-school education program planned and taught by UNC students. We empower youth by challenging them to assess their identities through the stories of these artists. Students cultivate writing, public speaking, and analytical skills that promote creativity and success in an academic setting. We strive to give students background and vocabulary for discussing art through studio art projects, visits from local artists, and by generally exposing them to not only visual art in the Durham area but also to art from various cultures around the world.
