We will first hear from professors at Duke that specialize in the history of literacy tests at the polls in North Carolina, and then we will hear the story of several UNC students that were recently denied their right to vote due to ID laws in North Carolina. UNC's first annual Rural Sustainability Summit will be an all-day conference on Friday, October 14 in the UNC Student Union, focused on the intersection of economic development and environmental sustainability in rural North Carolina. Please join us for our 4th annual Zumbathon for Literacy event, which raises money to pay for increased rent costs at Carrboro Elementary School. North Carolina is one of the two remaining states to automatically try 16 year old kids as adults. Come learn about the school-to-prison pipeline and the Raise the Age campaign, and discuss and engage with a panel of experts on these issues.
