NC SPEAKS UP/OUT (Round 1: Trump’s “Muslim Ban”)

January 30, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

On Friday, President Trump signed the long-discussed Executive Order banning refugees from 7 countries with significant Muslim populations.

Echoing campaign rhetoric and language from last year’s fear-induced “SAFE Act”, he deemed the move “necessary for national security.”

Got something to say about it? Good. We do too.

Join us Monday morning (January 30th) from 10:00-11:30 am in front of Wilson library to make your voices heard and tell our North Carolina representatives to SPEAK UP IN OPPOSITION!

At 10:00 am (sharp! so people can get to class), we will take a group photo on the steps to email, tweet, and use in public op-eds to Senator Burr, Senator Tillis, and Governor Cooper.

Then for the next hour and a half, members of the Coalition for Human rights will stick by the steps to record individual video messages addressed directly to the Governor and Senators.

We will flood their inboxes and Twitter pages with thoughts and reactions about the Executive Order (and encourage you to do the same – @SenatorBurr @ThomTillis @RoyCooperNC)

Come tell us/them:
Why does refugee resettlement and immigration matter to you, your friends, your family, and your community?

What parts of this Executive Order are distressing/threatening?

Where is North Carolina’s moral leadership on this issue? What do you want it to look like?

SEE YOU MONDAY AT 10
